Rural Tourism - North West Region
This region offers a wide variety of tourist attractions ranging from the subtropical jungles - like the Yungas jungle - to the arid Puna in Jujuy, or the valleys and canyons surrounded by polychrome hills, which are dotted with colonial towns boasting outstanding exponents of religious and popular architecture. This geographical area, characterized by its vigorous and contrasting physical and cultural features, encompasses the following provinces: Jujuy, Salta, Santiago del Estero, Tucumán and
Catamarca. Not only can tourists appreciate the large diversity of natural attractions but they can also carry out typically rural duties (sowing, harvesting), and visit tambos (milking yards). Or they can indulge in ecotourism (photographic safaris, bird-watching, etc.), sporting and recreational activities (fishing, horseback riding, hiking, etc.) as well as cultural activities (folklore music, rural museums, traditional regional dishes, etc.). During the horseback riding tours at an altitude over 3,000 meters, visitors can appreciate the majesty and awesome tranquility of the landscape ornamented with wonderful
colors and amiable local towns.
