Lying ín the northwestern corner of Chubut province, this National Park was founded in 1937 as an annex to Parque National Los Alerces in order to preserve the basin of the Rio Puelo.
The Andean area was dramatically changed by glaciers, which formed extensive and deep lakes. Such ís the case of Lago Puelo, whose waters give birth to the namesake river before flowing into the Pacific Ocean.
Chubut - Parque National Los Alerces
This unit was created in 1937 for the purpose of protecting mainly the lahuán or alerce (Fitzroya cupressoides) forests, enormous example of the Andean-Patagonian flora.
Located in the west of Chubut province, this National Park houses a complex breathtaking lacustrine system that constitutes the source or the outlet of numerous rivers and brooks. The lakes are surrounded by mountains densely covered with coihue, cypress and lenga forests.
