Geography

With a huge variety of climates and sceneries, Argentina has a total area of 3,761,274 sq km, of which the Pampas cover one third. In the south, Patagonia, a vast region peppered with woods, lakes and glaciers, stretches west as far as the southernmost Andean mountains. In the center, the Cuyo region boasts the highest summit in the western hemisphere, Mount Aconcagua (6,959 m). The north-west is characterized by the Puna - a high Andean Plateau -, valleys, canyons and polychrome mountains. And in the north-east, sandwiched in between the major Paraná and Uruguay rivers, lies the Mesopotamia, a land of tropical forests.

Climate

Argentina's climate is extremely varied, from mild and wet in the Pampas to cold and damp in Patagonia, and from subtropical in Mesopotamia to hot in the north.

The temperature averages 23°C in summertime - November through March -, and 12°C in wintertime, June through September.
