Buenos Aires Neighborhoods - Palermo

El Rosedal, Palermo (Buenos Aires)
El Rosedal, Palermo (Buenos Aires)
There were some who believed that it was possible to move Paris to South America. The Tres de Febrero Park - commonly known as the "Bosques de Palermo" (the Palermo woods), is the result of that dream and the work of architect Carlos Thays. The artificial lake with its bridges and arbours, surrounded by old trees, the elegant Rosedal Park and the delightful Andalusian Courtyard with its majólicas donated by the Sevilla City Council constitute one of the classic green spaces where Porteños flock to on weekends to catch some sun, go for boat and bike rides, rollerblade or to exercise.

El Planetario, Palermo (Buenos Aires)

During the week, it is common to see people jog in the morning or in the evening around the Galileo Galilei Planetarium and Japanese Garden, or cross the street in front of the Monumento de los Espanoles (the Monument of the Spaniards) towards the Zoo or the Botanical Garden.

At Libertador Avenue and Dorrego Street is the Hipódromo Argentino (the Argentine Race Track), a memento of the Belle Epoque architectural style where horse races and social events take place.

Centro Cultural Islámico Rey Fahd, Palermo (Buenos Aires)

Crossing the broad avenue, you arrive at the Campo Argentino de Polo (The Argentine Polo Field).

On the other side of the railroad track is the imposing King Fahd Islamic Cultural Center which covers three hectares. It was inaugurated in September 2000 and has a school, exhibition and conference rooms, a library and a mosque with a capacity for 1600 faithful.

The neighborhood's oldest section with low houses, aging trees, narrow streets and picturesque passages is located between Santa Fe Avenue and Córdoba Avenue.

It is the favorite place for bohemians and intellectuals tied to arts and literature, and went through a process of renovation until turning itself into a neuralgic point of the Porteño nightlife. The area around Cortázar square, between Honduras and Serrano streets, where small bars and restaurants have been operating for years, have become a sort of Palermo Soho with new clothes and decoration designer shops.

The streets neighboring the America TV studios have become a gastronomic center which saw more than forty bars and restaurants open in less than a year which are in the able hands of young and creative chefs.

Palermo Hollywood offers ethnic, Mediterranean and international cuisine as well as tapa bars in old, renovated houses with enchanting courtyards, terraces and sidewalk tables.
