Province Catamarca
Ver página em Português | Ver página en Español
This province, characterized by its dry soil, has many mountain ranges whose numerous valleys are connected by means of passes known as cuestas, and constitute the meeting place of the frontal part of the Andes, with its awesome summits and passes to Chile, and the Puna, the southern tip of South America's highest plateau.
San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca - its capital - is a typical colonial city, proud of its cathedral and the Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Valle (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Valley).
Other interesting sightseeing spots are the villages of Belén and Londres, and the towns of Andalgalá and Tinogasta, which is on the route to Chile that goes through the San Francisco pass.
